UK Research on the value of restorative justice

As reported by the website, www.restorativejustice.org.uk,  on 25th July 2010, offering Restorative Justice to victims of serious crime would save £185 million over two years by reducing crime. Reductions in reoffending lead to cost savings of up to £9 for every £1 spent delivering the Restorative Justice service.

The research showed a 27% reduction in the rate of re-offending after participating in restorative justice.

  • Restorative Justice with Adult Offenders in New Zealand

New Zealand was in the vanguard in implementing restorative justice (RJ) for youth offenders. Over the past several years, considerable progress has been made in implementing restorative justice processes for adult offenders as well. RJ is now offered as an option in almost
every court.

In New Zealand, delivery of RJ involves cooperation between both governmental and nongovernmental entities. This article, by Joshua Wachtel, traces the latest RJ developments, through interviews with criminal justice professionals from the courts, other government agencies and community socialservice groups.
