Organisation Profile: Project Turnaround is a South Canterbury restorative justice programme based in Timaru that had its beginnings in 1996. It became a pilot site for the Crime Prevention Unit, trialing the use of community panels in adult diversion. Since then it has involved literally hundreds of cases, bringing together victims and offenders, community and police in an attempt to deal with offending in a positive and constructive way. In recent years, victim-offender conferencing has been added as a way of providing restorative opportunities for more serious offending after conviction and prior to sentence.
